Two More Weeks In SF – Still Working On A New Project

As some of you have known, I’ll be leaving the City by the end of this month, where I’ve spent most of my teenage years and the first five years of my 20s. At the time that I’m writing this post, I have only about two weeks in the City. I can tell you that I really have mixed feelings, it feels like you’re about to lose something, or abandon something, and I certainly feel I’ll missed a lot of things in San Francisco, my friends, (although there’re not a lot) my professional network that I have just built up, and some of the places I love to hangout. Indeed, if you’ve never been a new place or a new environment, you’ll never understand how hard it is to overcome everything. I remember when I first came to the country 10 years ago, everything to me was new. I had no idea what to do and I had no idea where should I go, I was really afraid of the new environment and I felt very very bad. The first few years of my life in the US was a nightmare, and I had to see a psychiatrist during those years. Things were getting better and better after I turned 20 years old, I had a better goal of my life, and I started studying broadcasting and working on the career of media production. Everything seemed heading to a good way, however, the Global Financial Crisis in 2008 and 2009 hit me and my family hard, my family business fell sharply and it has not recovered yet. I always wish I could find a full-time job in the field of media production here in San Francisco, but it always turns out hopeless and disappointment. I have to live, my family have to live. The fact is I can’t afford the living without a long-term, full-time job. If I can’t live, what else could I do?

I know I’ll be missing this City and the beautiful places that I love to go, therefore I’m now working on a new video project, probably this is also my last video project that I work in San Francisco. The working project title is “Best Of SF – Historic Sites", and as the name suggests, it’s a short video series featuring the historic sites in San Francisco, on each episode we’ll talk about a site or building that is either recognized as a historic site by the nation, the state, or the local residents. For more about my production plan you can scroll down to read it in details. My only concern is that I only have about 2 weeks here, I think I won’t have much time to shoot multiple episodes within these 2 weeks. Especially rain may return to the City in next couple of days, (damn it it hasn’t rain for a month, now it’s going to rain!) when the weather is not cooperating, it’s hard for me to do anything outdoor, not just shooting. Anyway, I’ll just try my best, and I hope I could shoot the footage for at least four episodes by the time I’m leaving San Francisco.

San Francisco, a beautiful city, it’s always that amazing.

The Progress Of My New Documentary

Last week, I proposed a short documentary about Misha Antonich, a video production instructor at City College Of San Francisco. Actually I have got Misha’s approval, he agrees to be interviewed and featured on my documentary. That means my preproduction of the project has been officially started. I have collected a short text based biography of Misha from his official school directory, and I’m trying visualize his biography by making a motion graphic based timeline of Misha’s life so far, making it look more interested that just throw out the biography without any visual effects.

I have also created the structure of the entire documentary, in my personal notes, I broken down the documentary into 5 sections:

1) A brief motion graphic based timeline of Misha
2) Misha’s early life
3) Misha’s road to media arts career
4) Misha’s life as a teacher
5) Misha’s life as a head of family

The other thing is that I have nailed down a list of questions that I’m going to ask Misha during the interview, and there will be 17 questions, mostly about his career path and his life as a media arts teacher.

Looking at my to-do list, things I’m going to do these two days include collecting pictures and / or videos from Misha as B-roll footage, asking for Misha’s release of those pictures and or videos, searching some CC (Creative Commons) pictures and videos for the documentary, writing down the ideas of the motion graphics and visual effects for the documentary, and much much more.

I’m going to be very busy, but I’m sure it’s going to be all worth it.

Preproduction Of A New Documentary Is Underway

This morning I have developed another production plan for a short documentary, it’s a documentary about Misha Antonich, a media production instructor at City College Of San Francisco. Because the documentary needs to be done by the end of this month, I push my other production plan to a later time and give this one as the first priority. Here is the link of my production plan / treatment: https://victorleivideo1633.wordpress.com/my-production-plans/production-plan-%e2%80%9cmisha-antonich-media-arts-life%e2%80%9d/ Meanwhile, I’m going to contact Misha, the interviewee this weekend about this documentary and see if it’s really do-able with the settings and resources. If he is okay with it, then I could start working with the project and gather a production crew.

A lot of thing is coming with production for the next few weeks, but I believe I can handle it well.

I don’t just do good things, I also do best things.

Our City Our Life – A New Production Plan Is Here

Happy 1st day of October! This morning I finished a draft of the production plan for the new “Best Of SF", so you can click on the link below and tell me your thoughts. By the way, on the proposal I no longer name it “Best Of SF", I have renamed the program “Our City . Our Life". Ideas and concepts are still the same, but it should be a more entertaining and intellectual series.

Hopefully we can start rolling cameras by the end of this month.
